Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect when I arrive for my first Reflexology session?

Ebb + Flow Reflexology is a private, holistic experience in my home studio. When you arrive, you’ll most likely be greeted first by our Happiness Crew; Black Lab puppy “Jasper”  and Tabby cat “Roo”.

The studio is located in a quiet and beautifully appointed treatment room that instantly feels safe and relaxing. On your first visit you will be asked to fill out a short health history and confidentiality agreement.

Do I need to remove any clothing?

A reflexology treatment is given while you are fully clothed, except for removing your socks and shoes, and rolling up your pant legs to the knee.

Do I sit in a chair or lay down on a bed?

You have the option of a zero-gravity chair or a comfortable massage table with pillows, bolsters and blankets to keep your body ergonomics and temperature comfortable. During the fall and winter months, the bed is pre-warmed for extra coziness.

Can we talk during my Reflexology treatment or do I need to be quiet?

The beginning of every Reflexology treatment starts with a conversation to go over your consultation form and discuss your wellness concerns, but after that, you’re encouraged to embrace the peace and healing that comes with a quiet space and mind. Talking is usually kept to a minimum as relaxation is the desired result, but of course, questions and comments regarding the session are welcomed. Do not hesitate to ask for bathroom break during session.

What is the cancellation policy?

Appointments can be changed or cancelled up to 24 hours prior to your appointment time. Within 24 hours of your appointment time, all changes are subject to 50% of the service payment.

What happens in a Reflexology treatment?

The treatment starts with a foot cleanse and relaxation with a warm scented towel. I will take a few moments look at your feet and make notes of the physical aspects of your foot. The session will begin with a relaxation technique to help you clear your mind and let go of anything that is over-activating your thoughts.

As I begin to work on your feet, the amount of pressure will be determined and check in on multiple times during the session to make sure you are comfortable. Some areas can be sensitive, but the overall feeling should be relaxing- never painful!

You may fall asleep during Reflexology and/or may experience emotions or physical feelings. This is all normal and part of the healing experience and nothing to be embarrassed about.

At the end of the session I will finish with more relaxation and foot massage of feet,  ankles and calves. At the end of the session I will offer a glass of water and urge you to drink water afterwards to hydrate after your session.

To achieve optimal results, the first several visits should be one week apart. Afterwards, once a month is recommended for maintenance of health.

Is Reflexology covered by Insurance Health Benefits?

The professional practice of reflexology has a place in the integrative health system. As such, health insurance is now expanding to include registered reflexology providers. Individuals will need to check their benefits plan to see if there is coverage available. I will provide you with a certified receipt that you can submit to your insurance provider.

What types of things can Reflexology help with?

Anxiety - Foot reflexology can reduce anxiety as it stimulates particular nerve endings (reflex points)in the feet, promoting a sense of relaxation and well being which in turn can help the body regenerate itself.

Digestive issues - Your digestive system is finely tuned, and can easily be disrupted, causing constipation, diarrhea, IBS,  Crohn's Disease. Reflexology can address digestive issues by promoting stress relief and easing digestive tension, by calming the system. This disruption can be be caused by anxiety and distress.

Menopausal Symptoms - Reflexology can help alleviate both the physical (hot flashes, heart palpitations)  and emotional systems (irritability, anxiety) helping to cope better through this transitional time.

Circulation -  Reflexology can improve blood circulation in the feet and throughout the body.  Tingly, numb and cold feet can be a sign of poor circulation. Swollen feet and ankles as well as discoloration of toes and feet can also be a sign of poor circulation . Application of certain thumb, finger and hand techniques can improve blood to vital organs. If a part of the body is injured, reflexology can help repair injured tissue.

Sleep - A simple reflexology routine can help you drift off to sleep naturally. Reflexes corresponding to the brain and pineal gland will be stimulated, helping to balance the release of the natural sleep hormone melatonin, which is very important for healthy sleep.
